Industrial Property Days

In its aim to bring Industrial Property into all sectors, the SPTO has held a number of meetings analysing it from different viewpoints. Industrial Property is a key factor in everyday business decisions as new products, brands and designs stemming from on-going innovation and creativity are constantly appearing on the market.

In addition, Industrial Property allows enterprises to use their intangible assets to become more competitive and build up their advantages in markets. The SPTO aims to facilitate this process, expanding knowledge on Industrial Property and breaking down administrative or financial barriers or obstacles.

Meetings held by the SPTO over the last month

  • Information session for SMEs and entrepreneurs: This aimed to provide SMEs and entrepreneurs with basic information on patents, trademarks and industrial designs enabling them to obtain proper protection for their innovations and corporate identity. Information was also provided on possible channels for funding, aid and subsidies from the Public Administration, especially the Centre for Industrial Technological Development (CDTI), the National Enterprise for Innovation (ENISA) and the SPTO itself. This session, forming part of the Carlos Fernández-Novoa Chair for Innovation and Industrial Property, was held in the SPTO premises.

  • Meeting on protecting well-known brands against improper use:
This meeting, organised by the SPTO and the Leading Brands of Spain Forum (FMRE) in collaboration with the Baylos Abogados legal office, adopted a multi-disciplinary approach to examine the protection of well-known brands with the aim of preventing them from being wrongly used by consumers to identify a type of product regardless of its business origin. Representatives of some well-known brands were present at the meeting and described their successes in the market.

  • Spain-Morocco meeting: This meeting was held at the Alicante Chamber of Commerce, which organised it in collaboration with the SPTO and the Moroccan Office for Intellectual and Commercial Property (OMPIC). Information was given on what Spanish businesses in the Moroccan industrial system should protect and how.
