The SPTO records 6,000 Technological Patent ReportsSince the late 1980s the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (SPTO) has been offering technological information services to make known how patents can be used as a source of information for companies, technology centres, parks and platforms, universities, public research bodies, inventors and the general public. One of these services are the Technological Patent Reports (TPR) that are drawn up by SPTO specialists. These provide an in-depth analysis of any patent documents and scientific literature published anywhere in the world relating to the information provided by applicants. The SPTO recently reached 6,000 TPRs which indicates how important these reports are for users. They contain information that is very valuable for both patent and utility model applications and for R&D projects and other specific technical matters. Although it is not compulsory to perform a search before submitting a patent or utility model application, it is advisable as it avoids wasting money and effort on something that has already been patented, it provides information on the state of the art and gives guidelines on how other related applications were worded. A range of services Since 2008 these services have been certified according to the UNE-EN ISO 9001 and UNE-166006 standards. In addition to the 6,000 Technological Patent Reports issued, there have been more than 4,000 searches and customised technological surveillance reports. Together with the system for constant improvement, these allow us to know the opinions of our users and encourage us to continue disseminating and expanding our technological information services.
