The SPTO's experience as a new arrival at the Madrid Book Fair

The SPTO took part for the first time in the Madrid Book Fair, now in its 76th year.

The aim of attending was to raise awareness among the general public of SPTO publications and the Archive historic collection, which had previously only attracted a specialist audience.

A wide range of publications were on display, with a total of 18 on sale, including the New Patent Law, which came into force on 1 April this year. Despite the new Law, the best-selling books were on historic topics, such as “Patentes de Invención de Don Leonardo Torres Quevedo” (Invention Patents by Leonardo Torres Quevedo).

Many people who visited the SPTO stand expressed an interest in the sheets of patents, trademarks and privileges from the Archive historic collection, a selection of which was taken to the Fair publicise the wonderful heritage held by the Office.

The great attitude and fantastic work done by the members of staff who took part in the Book Fair meant that the SPTO dealt with more than 500 visitors at the stand over the 17-day event.
