Intellectual and Industrial Property and young people: Innovate for a better future

Since the year 2000, when the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed April 26 as World Intellectual Property Day, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has promoted this initiative with the aim of disseminating and establishing a international industrial and intellectual property balanced and effective.

This year, the theme chosen by WIPO is “IP and youth: Innovating for a better future”. World IP Day 2022 wants to give prominence to this sector of the population with great potential in creativity, ingenuity and entrepreneurship, and help them discover how industrial and intellectual property can be a valuable tool in achieving their goals as future entrepreneurs and innovators in the search for a better and more sustainable future.

For this reason, the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office, O.A. (OEPM) and the Directorate-General for Cultural Industries, Intellectual Property and Cooperation (DGICPIC) of the Ministry of Culture and Sport organized a day to celebrate the ingenuity, creativity, vision and value of young cultural and innovative creators and entrepreneurs in Spain in order to build a better future.

During the day, a round table was held in which innovative and successful young people from very diverse fields participated and explained how their business success has gone hand in hand with the effective use of the industrial and intellectual property protection system.

The event was opened by the Director of the Círculo de Bellas Artes, Valerio Rocco Lozano, the General Director of DGICPIC, Adriana Moscoso del Pardo Hernández, and the Director of the OEPM, José Antonio Gil Celedonio. In the words of the latter: "Intellectual and industrial property systems are essential to continue generating economic progress, industrial, cultural and social development".

In addition, a video was shown in which, along with the institutional testimonies, there are testimonials from young creators and cultural and innovative entrepreneurs in Spain in order to build a better future.

The celebration of the event had a hybrid format: virtual through the YouTube channel of the Círculo de Bellas Artes; and in Madrid, at the headquarters of the Círculo de Bellas Artes.
