What is a patent addition?

The holder of a valid patent may protect the inventions that improve on or upgrade the main invention by requesting what is known as a patent addition.

These improvements or upgrades must always be integrated with the object of the main patent in what is known as a single inventive unit.

The additions last the same length of time as the time remaining on the patent, they are not subject to annual payments and utility models cannot have additions.
