Are patent applications disclosed to the public?

Patent offices grant patents in exchange for publishing the invention, so that it becomes available to the general public.

The file is only kept secret in the first phase of the patent granting procedure, when it is assessed for any relevance to national security, in which case the patent will be "Secret".

But in all cases, and provided the applicant does not withdraw the application, the patent will be published and disseminated according to law.
