How many patents are eventually exploited?

It is difficult to be exact, but approximately 2-5% of patents applied for are developed and used.

According to the information from the latest "International Exhibition of Technology and Product Inventions", held annually in Geneva, 1,000 inventions were presented by 775 exhibitors from 42 countries. At the 35th edition of this exhibition in 2007, transfer and licensing contracts were signed for a total of $30 million (around €22 million), that is, an average of €22,000 per invention.
