The feedthrough is formed of a second coefficient of thermal expansion material, such as brass, and is higher than the first coefficient of thermal expansion material. A clamping member, such as a threaded nut 19 moving along a corresponding threaded surface that may be provided on the portion 4 of the feedthrough extending outside the vessel, is used to compress the seal between the wall of the vessel and the flange. A spacer, such as a washer 18 and/or annular disc 20 is provided between the clamping member and the flange, and the spacer material has a coefficient of thermal expansion which is higher than the second coefficient of thermal expansion material. The vessel may be an evacuated tube solar thermal collector, and the spacer may be made of plastics or brass. The selected coefficient of thermal expansion materials provides a reliable seal arrangement for a vessel that operates across a wide temperature range.
