Provided is a battery pack in which the voltage of each battery cell is monitored using an inexpensive general-purpose microcomputer. A battery pack 100 comprises: a plurality of battery cells 105-107 connected in series; a plurality of voltage detection units 171-173 which detect the voltage of each of the battery cells; and a microcomputer 150 which measures the voltages of the battery cells from the output of each of the voltage detection units. Switch control circuits 181-183 for switching on or off the outputs from the voltage detection units 171-173 to the microcomputer 150 are provided on the voltage detection units. Voltage divider circuits (R3, R4; R9, R10; R15, R16) are provided on the output side of the voltage detection units 171-173, said voltage divider circuits serving to divide the detected voltages into voltages that are less than or equal to the power supply voltage of a control unit. The microcomputer 150 inputs the voltages divided by the voltage divider circuits and measures the voltages of the battery cells 105-107.

A battery module clamping arrangement is disclosed for clamping a battery module 12 in a battery pack (10, fig 1), the battery pack comprising a cooling system 14. The clamping arrangement comprises means 52 for applying a clamping force to the battery module such that the battery module maintains thermal contact with the cooling system, and may also include means 58 for applying a counter force to the cooling system. Support means 56 are provided for supporting the battery module. The support means comprise a compression stop, preferably in the form of a compression pin (fig 9A). This can allow the battery module to maintain thermal contact with the cooling system while ensuring that any additional forces are transferred through the support means rather than through the cooling system. The clamping arrangement is preferably arranged such that the battery module contacts the compression stop when the clamping force is above a predetermined value, which could lead to deformation of the cooling system. A thermally conductive pad 54 for providing thermal contact between the battery module and the cooling system is also disclosed.

Methods of removing target impurities from a crude lithium bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide (LiFSI) to make a purified LiFSI product. In some embodiments, a purification method includes contacting crude LiFSI with a first anhydrous organic solvent to create a solution containing LiFSI and the target impurity(ies), wherein the LiFSI is soluble and the impurity(ies) is/are substantially insoluble. In some embodiments, a second anhydrous organic solvent is added to the solution to precipitate the target impurity(ies), which is then filtered to obtain a filtrate. In some embodiments, solvent is removed from the filtrate to obtain a solid mass containing LiFSI, which may then be contacted with a third anhydrous organic solvent in which the LiFSI is insoluble. The LiFSI may then be isolated from the third anhydrous organic solvent to obtain the purified LiFSI product. Also disclosed are purified LiFSI products and electrochemical devices utilizing purified LiFSI products, among other things.
