The campaign aims to inform Spanish society of the negative consequences of consuming counterfeit products and of the circumstances that lie behind this criminal phenomenon

"Don’t be an accomplice to counterfeiting"

On World Anti-Counterfeiting Day held on 2 June, the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (SPTO) and the National Association for the Defence of Trademarks (ANDEMA) set up an awareness campaign on counterfeiting and the damage it causes. Under the slogan “Don’t be an accomplice to counterfeiting”, the campaign aims to inform Spanish society of the negative consequences of consuming counterfeit products and of the circumstances that lie behind this criminal phenomenon.

Negative consequences
As part of the campaign, some of the specific consequences of consuming counterfeit products were explained - job losses, company shutdowns, creation of mafias and criminal groups, consumer irresponsibility and health risks.

The campaign included a documentary telling the real story of a Senegalese citizen living in Spain who became trapped in the illegal trade of counterfeit products. It described his experience, how he became involved and how he was able to escape such practices thanks to the ASILA charity group. Various information materials were also produced for the campaign (leaflets, posters, banners, etc.), as well as outdoor advertising in Madrid.

Presence in social networks
The entities behind the campaign also shared its content on their profiles on social networks: @YoSoyOriginal, the Facebook site of the Yo Soy Original campaign; @OEPM_es and its channels on Facebook and YouTube; and @andema_es. #stopfalsificaciones and #NoSeasComplice are the tags used.
