The SPTO renews its condition of PCT International Authority and introduces the possibility of using English as lingua franca

Option available from January 1st

Cross-border projection becomes almost a necessity in an increasingly globalized world. At the SPTO we have recently renewed our condition of International Searching Authority (ISA) and International Preliminary Examining Authority (IPEA) for the next 10 years. This condition gives us competence in relation to the international requests made from Spain.

Besides, and following our Strategic Plan 2017-2020 on Intellectual Property we started using English as lingua franca in our action context as ISA and IPEA. This way Spanish companies and firms from Spanish-speaking countries that have designated the SPTO as ISA and IPEA will be able to use both English and Spanish as working and post language in these fields.

We expect that this new option, available from January 1st, will contribute to the Spanish SMEs and entrepreneurs strategic settlement at global markets.
