The WIPO General Director visits the SPTO

Trust and mutual cooperation

The Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (SPTO) seeks in every action the maximum cooperation with all the actors involved in the Industrial and Intellectual Property world. One of the most outstanding entities in this field at international level is the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), whose mission is to lead the development of a balanced and effective international Intellectual Property system that enables innovation and creativity for the benefit of all.

The long-lasting relation between both bodies is characterized by the mutual trust and cooperation, an aspect that was quite clear during the visit of Francis Gurry, the WIPO General Director, to the SPTO headquarters on February 1st. The bilateral meeting was attended, among others, by the SPTO President and Deputy Secretary of the Spanish Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism and the SPTO Director.

The meeting work programme focused on three essential points: the National Anti-Counterfeiting Plan which was favorably received by Gurry who expressed his intention of giving it the well-deserved visibility, the Technological Information Services and the new Law on Trademarks. After the meeting, the WIPO Director signed on the authorities book and visited the Office facilities (the Distinctive Signs Department, the PCT Service, the Information and Registry Service and the exhibition Women Inventors, organized on the occasion of the World Intellectual Property Day 2018).
