New brochure on Collective and Certification Trademarks

Collective and certification trademarks are a special type of trademarks with some special characteristics. Therefore, the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office, O.A. (SPTO) have detected the need to explain these titles in more detail in the publication.

The preparation of this brochure takes place within the framework of Project 1.1.6 "Cooperation with other operators, public and private, in matters of Protected Designations of Origin and Geographical Indications" of the Strategic Plan of the SPTO 2021-2024, with the aim of enhance the capacities of these economic operators, providing them with clear and precise information on these types of trademarks.

The brochure aims to contribute to a better understanding of collective and certification trademarks and to facilitate their registration, trying to answer the queries that are usually raised about them and highlighting their differential notes in relation to other types of trademarks.

Thus, we will find answers to questions related to who, how and where collective and certification trademarks can be applied for, as well as the procedure and the registration grounds of refusal that may affect them.

In addition, it will allow the applicant for these trademarks to have sufficient information on the documentation that must be provided and the fees that must be paid. Finally, a reference is made to the advantages that these trademarks have from both, the business point and the consumer's point of view.
