The SPTO 2015 Activities Report is now available

The Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (SPTO) has published its Activities Report for 2015 and made it available on its website. The document covers actions such as the approval of the New Patent Law 24/2015 -which brings Spanish legislation into line with international requirements, thus strengthening the national Patent system and establishing a legal framework that gives priority to what is truly inventive and novel- and the new Models for Technology Transfer Contracts that are now available, free of charge, on the Office website.

A more digital SPTO
After a number of actions taken during 2015, the SPTO has increased its visibility and now receives more visits to its website, social networks, blog and associated journals. It has also met its objective of creating greater awareness of Industrial Property by increasing its presence in trade fairs and in educational and student events.

Various areas of action
With the focus on entrepreneurship, the SPTO has allocated 3.97 billion euros to subsidise 2,928 inventions with the aim of encouraging Patent and Utility Model applications abroad, as well as 167,350 euros for 747 inventions to promote Patent and Utility Model applications in Spain. It has also set up a new advisory section on its website for SMEs and entrepreneurs, and has expanded its Technological Information services which are now available to users free of charge.

In addition, it has collaborated with the various agents involved in the fight against counterfeiting with two campaigns, “Don’t be an accomplice to counterfeiting” and “Your decision counts”, celebrates World Anti-Counterfeiting Day and collaborates with the European Observatory on Infringements of Intellectual Property Rights and the Judiciary.

As part of its international activity, the Office has continued to cooperate with the main international Industrial Property organisations, hosting important events and consolidating its traditional links with Latin America. Finally, in the section on facts and figures, it gives statistics by region, by main applicants, etc. all illustrated with graphs.

Altogether, the Report provides a full and interesting account of activities.
