20th Annual Summit of Heads of State and Government

On December 3rd and 4th, the 20th Annual Summit of Heads of State and Government was held in the city of Mar del Plata, Argentina.

Under the slogan "Education for Social Inclusion", the meeting ended with the adoption of an Action Program that includes many policy areas such as Industrial Property. Thus, the Heads of State and Government have once again shown, and supported, the Industrial Property Study, commissioned at the previous summit in the Portuguese city of Estoril, to the General Secretariat of the Ibero-American Summits (SEGIB).

This study is focused on encouraging the exchange of information through public databases in Spanish and Portuguese, the development of existing training activities and the promotion of technology transfer.

The Study shall involve Industrial Property Offices and the sectors of academia and research, entrepreneurship and small and medium-sized enterprises (SME’s). Furthermore, it shall serve as the basis for defining a future Latin American project for cooperation in this matter.

Additionally, the Ibero-American Training Project in the Field of International Patent Search (CIBIT), developed by the SPTO with the aim of training patent examiners in the region in search strategy and information technology, has also received significant support in the Action Program, highlighting its importance as part of future Ibero-American Project Cooperation in industrial property.
