
Alberto Casado, Vice-President of EPO
The Administrative Council of the European Patent Organization (EPO) has elected Alberto Casado Cerviño as Vice-President of this body for the General Department for Operational Support. Alberto Casado will be replacing Peter Vermeij from Holland, and his appointment will have a duration of five years.
Alberto Casado has extensive experience in Industrial Property. He is currently Director General of the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (OEPM) and previously, from 1994 to 2004, was Vice-President of the Office for the Harmonisation of the Internal Market (OHIM). He was also a member of the Administrative Council of the European Patent Organization from 1988 to 1994 and has led the Spanish Delegation since 1994. In 2009, he was elected Acting President of the Administrative Council.
Functions of the Administrative Council
The Administrative Council is the legislative body of the European Patent Organization. It is made up of delegations from the 38 member countries, is responsible for supervising the activities of the European Patent Office, the Organisation’s executive branch, for approving its budget and for appointing its main officers, including the President and Vice-President.
The General Department for Operational Support collaborates in the procedure for granting European patents to internal and external users of the EPO services.
