The SPTO attends international meetings in Brazil

Exchange of good practices in the use of the IP systems

The current market is global and transcends borders, this fact makes essential to work at an international level to protect industrial property rights. The SPTO has been in charge of representing Spain at international forums for many years, a role that carries out with pride and care. Recently, our Office attended various meetings in Brazil to work side by side with the National IP Offices of various countries.

One of these vital appointments was the Meeting of the Intergovernmental Council of the Ibero-American Program on Industrial Property (IBEPI, by its Spanish acronym), held in São Paulo on August 19th. The Program promotes the strategic use of Industrial Property as a tool for the development and integration of the Ibero-American States, encouraging the exchange of good practices on the use of IP systems. During the meeting several aspects were dealt with: the actions of the IBEPI Communication Committee, the fusion of it with the CIBEPYME Committee (Platform for the Support of the Ibero-American SMEs from the region that want to become internationalized), the financial contributions to the Program and the main IBEPI action lines whose analysis will be continued at the next Intergovernmental Council meeting that will take place in September.

No less important was the presence of Mr. José Antonio Gil Celedonio (SPTO Director) at the 38th Congress of the Brazilian Association of Intellectual Property (ABPI, by its Brazilian acronym), that was held on August 19th - 21st. During the Congress ten IP national institutes from Ibero-America had the chance to exchange their experience with patent examining and other IP rights at an interesting debate that also counted with the attendance of the SPTO Director. A key point of the debate was the processing optimization and in particular: financial autonomy, processing simplification, Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH), support from external experts and use of new digital tools including artificial intelligence.
