New SPTO Subsidy call for the promotion of Patent and Utility Model Applications

The Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (SPTO) works day by day to propel and support technological and economic development by granting titles that legally protect the different Industrial Property modalities. The protection of such valuable assets is advisable at national level and essential to guarantee fair access to international markets to Spanish companies. For this reason, the SPTO calls regularly Subsidies for the promotion of Patent and Utility Model Applications. A summary of the SPTO Resolution which approved the 2019 call for the International Program of these Subsidies was published at the BOE on May 28th 2019. The whole text is available at the BDNS and at our website. The publication of the National Program of these Subsidies will be done later on.

According to the text of the Resolution, the aim of these subsidies is to encourage the international protection of technology using Patent or Utility Model titles, as well as to improve the competitiveness of those private entities that search new markets beyond Spain.

In particular the following aids have been called:

• Subsidies for the extension of a Patent or Utility Model application at third countries National Offices or Patent Regional Offices, in the context of a National or Regional Patent or Utility Model granting process. According to the 2019 call, among others, the following concepts can be financed: Application, Search Report, Examination or Grant, EPO annuities and European Patent Validation.
• Subsidies for PCT International Processing, including related activities such as: Application, International Search and Preliminary Examination.
