Celebration in Madrid of EPIP2021

The 16th Annual Conference of European Policy for Intellectual Property (EPIP) took place in Madrid from September 8 to 10, at The Spanish National Research Council (CSIC).

EPIP is an international, independent, interdisciplinary and non-profit association of researchers, which over the years has become one of the main European platforms for analysis and debate on Industrial and Intellectual Property (IP) systems and intangible assets. Its objective is to promote research on the economic, legal, managerial, social, political and historical aspects of IP rights at national, European and international level. All forms of IP are relevant, whether they are patents, copyrights, trademarks, breeders' rights, geographical indications, design rights, trade secrets or others.

300 experts from more than 30 countries, academics and professionals from the world of economics, management and legal practice, together with high-level public representatives, have analyzed key issues of IP and innovation: the impact of the covid-19, the relationship between science and industry, the disruption of new technologies such as artificial intelligence and its impact on the management of IPR, or how IP can play a key role in sustainable economic development.

The SPTO, as sponsor of this event, has participated in this Conference to raise awareness of the value and importance of IP. The Director of the SPTO, José Antonio Gil Celedonio, participated in the opening, on September 8, together with the Director General of EUIPO, Christian Archambeau, and the Deputy Vice President of Knowledge Transfer of the CSIC, Ana Castro. In addition, the Director of the SPTO also participated in the round table on “Challenges for Patent and Trademark Offices” on September 10, together with representatives of the EPO, EUIPO, WIPO, UK IPO and the USPTO Patent Offices.
