8th meeting of the Joint Spanish-Moroccan Committee on IP

A meeting was held in Madrid on 15 and 16 September of the Joint Spanish-Moroccan Committee on Intellectual Property (IP). On 15 September, the Moroccan Office for Industrial and Commercial Property (OMPIC) presented the latest novelties in its national system for invention patents within the framework of a seminar organised by SPTO in collaboration with the European Patent Office (EPO) and targeting Spanish companies. The participants stressed the level of IP protection in Morocco which is in line with European standards and strengthens investment in high value added in Morocco.  

Stronger cooperation
The bilateral OMPIC-SPTO meeting provided an opportunity for sharing experiences in patent examination and for discussing aspects of other Industrial Property Rights (Trademarks and Industrial Designs), the fight against counterfeiting and how to promote the findings of R&D in universities.

The SPTO and OMPIC Directors agreed to strengthen cooperation in Patent Examination in order to set up a reciprocal system for using the results of Search Reports, known internationally as the PPH (Patent Prosecution Highway) procedure. The two offices also agreed to act together to inform users of the systems for Industrial Property protection in Spain and Morocco.
