The Government announces a National Plan to Combat Counterfeiting

On Monday, November 18, the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism announced the presentation of a National Plan to Combat Counterfeiting, when the Government will be formed. These statements were made during the 25th Anniversary commemoration of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) in Alicante.

The minister ratified the commitment of the Executive in the fight against counterfeiting and listed the actions carried out in this area, such as the work carried out by the Intersectorial Commission to act against the activities that violate Industrial Property Rights, the creation of the Bureau of the Intrusism and the incorporation into the Spanish legal system of the Trademarks Directive.

The Spanish Patent and Trademark Office, O.A. (SPTO) has developed this plan that aims to address the problem of counterfeiting through different lines of action grouped into four axes: regulation, coordination, analysis and training, and awareness.

Numerous awareness campaigns against counterfeiting and in support of legal trade have been carried out for years at the SPTO. Along these lines, in the next few days the SPTO will launch a new advertising campaign whose main objective is to raise public awareness in this area. It is important to inform you of the damage caused by counterfeits in the economy as a whole, as well as in the health and safety of the consumers themselves.
