SPTO summer courses

The long-awaited summer is back, and with it, the SPTO summer courses. This year, we offer three different courses, each in collaboration with a different organization, but all of them very important and interesting.

The first of the courses is the WIPO Summer Course. It is organized by the Academy of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office, O.A. (SPTO) for two weeks (from July 5 to 16). The course offers students in their final years of studies and young professionals the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of intellectual and industrial property (IP), as well as show the role and functions of WIPO in the global administration of IP.

The program is structured in the form of lectures, case studies, simulation exercises and group discussions on specific IP topics, as well as their relationship with other disciplines.

It will be taught in person at the headquarters of the OEPM in Madrid.

The second of the courses, "Industrial Property and Health - Vision after the pandemic," is organized jointly with the Menéndez Pelayo International University (UIMP), and will take place from July 19 to 23.

The purpose of the seminar is to analyze the relationship between scientific and technological innovation protected by Industrial Property Rights and Health, especially in the health crisis caused by COVID19.

This course is for students, SMEs, professionals and, in general, anyone who has an interest in approaching Industrial Property or wishes to deepen certain aspects of it.

The courses are scheduled at the Santander headquarters will be taught in person and also remotely via streaming.

The third of the summer courses will take place on July 26 and 27 in El Escorial (Madrid) and is organized by the SPTO and the Complutense University of Madrid. The theme of the course will be: "The Europeanization of the trademark system: the Spanish experience."

The aim of this course is to contribute to the legal and economic debate on the evolution of trademark law regulation in the European Union and to delve into the main material law developments that emerged after its latest reform.

During the course, special mention will be made of completely new issues in national trademark law such as the proof of use in the processing of oppositions, a new means of defense of the applicant against opponents, or the future administrative nullity and expiration.
