Football and Industrial Property

During the World Cup which ended on 13 July, the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (SPTO) explained the link between the “king of sports” and Industrial Property.

In addition to an entry in the SPTO blog, patents and trademarks relating to football were published on social networks (Facebook and Twitter), as well as news on the counterfeiting of T-shirts, balls, and other football-related articles.

In particular, Spanish patents regarding technology for footwear, balls, lawn, referee aids, goalposts and even table football were published.

Some of the trademark that protect football-related aspects, such as the trademarks of footballers themselves and of the World Cup, were also described.
