The number of bilateral meetings were held with a view to strengthening international cooperation

WIPO General Assemblies

Representatives of the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (SPTO) attended the sessions of the General Assemblies of the World Industrial Property Organisation (WIPO) held in Geneva (Switzerland) from 5 to 9 October.

On this occasion, a number of bilateral meetings were held with the representatives of different national Industrial Property offices, with a view to strengthening international cooperation.

Bilateral meetings and agreements
On Monday 5th October, the Peruvian National Institute for the Defence of Competition and the Protection of Intellectual Property (INDECOPI) signed the Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) agreement, allowing for information to be exchanged between offices. The intention is to avoid the duplication of efforts and to speed up granting procedures, thus providing a better service for patent applicants.

A bilateral meeting was also held between the Israeli National Industrial Property Office (ILPO) and SPTO to reinforce cooperation between the two offices and to develop the working plan to be adopted in 2016. The SPTO also held a meeting with the Chinese delegation (SIPO) to define guidelines for cooperation between the two national offices. It also attended a multilateral meeting between the countries participating in the assemblies that are members of the Pacific Alliance (Japan, Colombia, Mexico, Chile and Peru).

In addition, a bilateral meeting was held between the Turkish Industrial Property Office (TIP) and the SPTO to promote the protection of Industrial Property rights in the two countries and, in a meeting between the delegations of the Brazilian National Industrial Property Institute (INPI) and the SPTO, forthcoming shared projects, both national and Latin American, were discussed.
