In view of the importance of Handicrafts in Latin America, this seminar aimed to raise awareness that obtaining adequate protection with trademarks and designs will enable this industry to adapt to the current economic situation.

The seminar was structured in 5 blocks covering different issues relating to Handicrafts, the Design and its protection by means of Intellectual Property, as well as other forms of protection.

During the seminar, the 22 delegates from various countries in the Latin America region had the chance to describe the Handicrafts situation in their respective countries. This meant that the differences between them could be highlighted and enabled everyone present to learn from other peoples' experiences. The seminar also featured specialist speakers from Guatemala, Mexico and Spain, who addressed topics covered during the proceedings in their own particular field of expertise.

The presentations from this seminar can be viewed in the Section “Intellectual Property: Presentations” on the SPTO website.
