WIPO Summer Course

For the first time, the World Intellectual Property Organisation Academy (WIPO), along with the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (SPTO) and the Escuela de Organización Industrial (Industrial Organisation School) (EOI), have organised a summer course on Industrial Property together. This course is oriented toward students in their last years of studies, and toward young professionals. Students come from several countries (Argentina, Colombia, Costa Rica, Spain, Guatemala, Mexico, Paraguay and Portugal). The course is held at EOI headquarters in Madrid, from the 3 through the 14 July.

The purpose of the course is to provide students with knowledge on the different scopes of Industrial and Intellectual Property (IP), as well as to increase understanding of IP as a tool for economic, social, cultural and technological development, and for them to learn about the WIPO's role in worldwide IP administration.

The course has several modules that bear on different aspects of IP (copyright, patents, trademarks and other Industrial Property rights), the importance of IP as a commercial asset and the need for compliance. The modules are taught by national and international experts in IP, including teachers from the SPTO and the WIPO, as well as private consultants.

The programme consists of conferences, practical case studies, simulation exercises and group debates on certain IP issues and its relationship with other disciplines. Moreover, it includes visits to different official entities, including the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (Spanish National Research Council), (CSIC) and the SPTO.
