Grants for SMEs from the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) - SME Fund 2022 Program

During 2021, the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) launched a grant fund of EUR 20 million to help small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) defray the expenses derived from applications for trademarks, designs and diagnosis of Industrial Property (IP). All of this is part of the Ideas Powered for Business Program, which is in turn part of the European Commission's IP Action Plan and is carried out in collaboration with the national and regional intellectual or industrial property offices of the European Union (EU).

To give continuity to these grants, EUIPO has launched a new grant campaign that will be in force throughout the year 2022, starting on January 10. The program is open to all EU companies that meet the official definition of an SME.

The main novelties that have been introduced this year, compared to 2021, are:

  • the inclusion of patents within the program;
  • the increase in reimbursement percentages that reaches 90% in the case of IP diagnosis;
  • 75% in the application fees for trademarks, designs;
  • 50% in the fees related to national patents;
  • the extension of the fees eligible for reimbursement;
  • and the possibility of requesting the vouchers at any time, thus eliminating the application windows. The maximum grant amount is EUR 2,250 per company.

However, the requirement to request the voucher prior to the provision of the industrial property service is maintained.
