It's now possible to patent inventions by Internet

•  Through the service of the electronic application for Spanish patents and utility models, the OEPM puts together the first measure included in its Strategic Plan for revising Electronic Administration.

•  This service allows investors, SME's and large enterprises to take advantage of a 15% discount in application fees.

•  This measure places Spain in the group of pioneering countries that are implementing electronic patent registration.

Presentation of the study by the OECD on the economic impact of piracy and counterfeiting

At the end of February, the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Commerce received the public presentation of the First Phase of the Study of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), “Economic Impact of Counterfeiting and Piracy,” an act jointly organized by the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (OEPM) and the OECD.

The presentation of the study, the first conducted in Spain , was attended by Ministry Subsecretary Amparo Fernández González, who participated in the inauguration, and the Spanish Ambassador to the OECD, Cristina Narbona, who closed the act.

The new Treaty on Trademark Rights is now in force

The Diplomatic Conference held on March 28, 2006 in the city of Singapore adopted a new Treaty on trademark rights, called the Treaty of Singapore. Spain, through its United Nations representative, has ratified the Treaty.

The Treaty itself establishes that it will come into force three months from the time of the tenth ratification document, which was that of Australia, included in the World Organization of Intellectual Property on December 15, 2008. That being the case, as of March 16 of this year, the Singapore Treaty has been in force. Spain was the eleventh State to ratify.

New version of INVENES

On February 24, production began on the new version of the inventions and designs database in Spanish: INVENES.

This database of the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (OEPM) is the successor to the OEPM traditional systems of searching for patents, utility models and designs, as was the case with CIBEPAT and OEPMPAT.
