European Inventor Award 2010

In April 2010, coinciding with the Spanish Presidency of the European Union, the European Inventor Award 2010 ceremony is going to be held in Madrid.

The European Inventor Award represents the highest distinction conferred upon inventors at the global level.

The awards were jointly founded in the year 2006 by the European Patent Office and the European Commission (EC) to pay tribute to inventors who have significantly contributed to innovation in Europe.

The award highlights European innovative spirit, R+D, the European economy, as well as the patent system at both the national and European level.

Objectives:

  • To award progress, since the awards provide recognition to inventions that promote technological development and contribute to the European economy.
  • To increase public awareness:
    • Providing international recognition to inventors who have contributed to economic growth in Europe
    • Making the public aware of the importance of IP in the knowledge society
    • Supporting industrial property (IP) as stated in the Lisbon Agenda
  • To provide incentives to others, since rewarding effort and business creativity will serve as an inspiration for future innovation.
