The SPTO signs a memorandum of understanding with ROSPATENT
On March 28, the SPTO signed a memorandum of understanding with ROSPATENT (the Federal Service for Intellectual Property, Patents and Trademarks of the Russian Federation), within the framework of support measures for the internationalization of companies listed in the Plan PI: 2010-12 Plan for Promoting Industrial Property in Spain.
The aim is to enable Spanish companies fast and effective protection of their innovations abroad by reducing delays and paperwork. To date, the SPTO has signed similar agreements with the Patent Offices of Japan, Finland, Canada and Portugal. The program is also effective with the United States of America, although without an explicit Agreement.
The intentions set out in the memorandum are:
- To include applicants from petitioning countries into the accelerated granting program that already exists within the SPTO.
- To make the most of search and reviews already undertaken by the offices of first entry to streamline procedures and reduce the workload.
- To cooperate on the harmonization of practice exams in order to create mutual trust.
The Russian Federation ranks sixth as a preferred destination of our businesses for protecting their brands internationally, and is ranked eighth in the generation of patent applications in the world with over 29,000, of which a large part, 27,700, corresponded to applications presented to Rospatent, which has signed PPH agreements with Japan, USA, Korea and Finland.
