New Technological Surveillance Bulletin on marine energy

The Spanish Patents and Trademark Office (OEPM) and the Portuguese Industrial Property Institute (INPI) continue to cooperate with the aim of benefiting users of the system to protect the different types of Industrial Property.

As a result of this collaboration, they have jointly brought out the first issue of the Technological Surveillance Bulletin on renewable marine energy, for the first quarter of 2013. This Bulletin aims to provide quarterly information on the latest news and applications for patents published in this technical sector in order to keep companies, SMEs and public organisations informed. The Bulletin is also available in Portuguese: Boletim de Vigilância Tecnológica.

Portugal, preferred destination for Spanish exports
The OEPM (Spanish Patents and Trademark Office) and the INPI (National Institute for Industrial Property) recently signed a new Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH). The PPH programme is based on a bilateral agreement between the two offices and allows an applicant from either of them to apply for fast-track processing of a patent application in the other, provided that the claims in the application are considered patentable by one of them. According to data from the ICEX (Spanish exports and investments office), Portugal was one of the preferred destinations for Spanish exports in 2012, involving about 16,000 companies and a total value of over 15 million euros. This programme is therefore expected to be of great assistance to both Spanish and Portuguese export companies.
