European Inventor Award 2013
The European Inventor Award, organised by the European Patent Office (EPO), is one of the most prestigious awards for innovation in Europe. This year, for the first time, the general public is invited to vote for the 'Popular Award'.
Votes can be sent in until 26 May via the EPO website.
Spanish finalist
The Spanish engineer José Luis López Gómez, from Talgo, has been nominated for these awards for a wheel suspension system that considerably improves the comfort of high-speed rail travel. His invention, patented in 2007, allows the wagon and wheels to adapt automatically to slopes and curves so that passengers do not feel the stresses and strains on the train as it takes a curve.
José Luis López Gómez is one of the three finalists in the ‘Industry’ category, one of the five categories covered by these awards. They pay tribute to inventors whose achievements are examples of the innovation needed for economic, technological and social development in Europe.
The awards will be presented on 28 May in Amsterdam at a ceremony attended by an international audience, including Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice of the Netherlands.
