New report on ‘Technologies to mitigate Climate Change 2004-2015’



The Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (SPTO) has published a new report on ‘Technologies to mitigate Climate Change 2004-2015’. This study analyses trends in clean energy sources over this period, and follows on from an initial publication brought out by the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (SPTO) entitled ‘Technologies to mitigate Climate Change 2004-2014’.

The latest study includes events taking place in 2015 and updates the data given.

Facts and figures
A total of 2,698 applications were published in Spain during the period 2004-2015 in sectors relating to climate change mitigation technologies. Of them, 2,027 were Patents and 671 were national Utility Models. The percentage of inventions published has risen from 1% in 2004 to 5% in 2015, indicating sustained growth over this period of 273%. The greatest activity was seen in solar thermal energy, with 948 applications.

The total number of published applications for European patents originating in Spain (that is, those filed by residents in Spain, both Spanish and foreign) was 661, which indicates a positive trend with sustained growth and an increase of 400%. The most active sector in this group was wind power.

Data are also given on the Autonomous Communities and types of applicant (companies, individuals and public bodies) for national applications and for applications for European patents originating in Spain.
