INPI-SPTO meeting on IP and green technologies training

In the context of the Euroclima+ programme

The ancient bonds between Spain and Latin America are still perfectly alive nowadays, as illustrates the creation of various cooperation projects with this region in the context of the IP Strategic Plan for 2017-2020. The purpose of this Plan is to promote the strategic use of IP as a development and integration tool, and to encourage the exchange of good practices on IP systems use. Besides, one of the greatest challenges that contemporary society has to face is the fight against climate change, which puts our reaction, commitment and cooperation capacity to the test. In this sense, the EU collaborates with Latin American countries on their efforts to draft and implement policies for the mitigation and adaptation to climate change. In particular, the programme EUROCLIMA+ promotes an environmentally sustainable and more climate-resilient development in 18 countries of Latin America, specially for the benefit of the most vulnerable populations. Its purpose is to integrate climate change in a policy framework able to deliver economic growth, improve social equity and enhance environmental protection.

Both aspects were combined harmoniously in the recent INPI-SPTO meeting that was held between May 28th and June 1st as part of the Euroclima+ programme. The meeting was attended by the SPTO, the FIIAPP, and the INPI BR (the Brazilian IP Office, an institution responsible for the implementation of the programme Euroclima+ in Brazil). The main goal of these conferences was to identify the INPI BR specific needs and assess their difficulties on IP and green technologies fields. During the course of them, the SPTO offered its support for future actions implementation in Brazil in the context of the programme. Moreover, the Office shared its experience on IP registering and spreading and advised both the INPI BR and the FIIAPP on IP issues, making special reference to green technologies and their protection by IP rights.

The results of the meeting have been highly satisfactory, even though there is still a long way to cover. From the SPTO we will keep you updated on all the advances and novelties in this field.
