Conference: "The importance of patents in the beginning of a business of an SME"

On October 27, the Egyptian Patent Office (EGPO), within the twinning project with the European Union (EU), organized a conference in Cairo entitled: “Patents for SMEs: the success of your business begins with a patent ”.

The President of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT), Dr. Mahmoud Saqr, was in charge of presiding over the event, and was attended by the Director of the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office, O.A. (OEPM), José Antonio Gil Celedonio and Sonsoles Mories, Director of the FIIAPP's Economic Development and Environment Unit. Also present were representatives of the embassies of Spain, Denmark and Germany, as well as the Delegations of the European Union (EU) in Egypt and the EU institutions that are part of the Twinning Project. To the act the Egyptian SMEs and staff of the Egyptian Patent Office (EGPO) participating in the project.

On this day, the speakers highlighted the importance of the correct use of Industrial Property (IP) rights for SMEs and the Egyptian business class, as a means of penetrating markets, and in this way improving the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises.

The Director of the OEPM was recognized by the Egyptian Patent Office for his contribution to improving the IP system of the host country.

The event was broadcast live in English and the SME session was recorded in Arabic.
