SPTO Awards for Best InventionSPTO Awards for Best Invention For the fourth consecutive year, the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (SPTO) has awarded prizes for the best inventions protected by Industrial Property Rights (IPR). The awards ceremony, which took place at the School of Industrial Organization (EOI), was presented by science communicator and researcher Deborah García Bello (Deborahciencia). The main objective of these awards is to support and promote research activity and recognize the innovative nature of the work of Spanish inventors. Innovation is the driving force behind the scientific and technological development of our economy, one of the keys to achieving strategic autonomy. In this regard, the presenter highlighted how, since the first patent was registered in Spain in 1826, the industrial property system has promoted human creativity and ingenuity, making it possible to find solutions to the problems encountered by society and industry. In addition to the awards ceremony itself, the event paid tribute to Pilar Mateo, one of Spain's most internationally renowned scientists, whose work and career were recognized with a commemorative plaque presented by the director of the SPTO. We also had the opportunity to hear from the winner of the Best Patent Award from the previous edition, Alberto Sánchez, who explained to the audience what his invention consists of, the advantages of patenting it, and his experience in bringing it to market and demonstrating its practical usefulness.
