Ciudad Real Authenticity AgreementCiudad Real Authenticity Agreement Ciudad Real has joined the ranks of cities fighting against counterfeiting by signing an agreement with the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (OEPM), thereby adding the city to the European Authenticity Network. This network aims to raise awareness of the value of industrial property (IP) and the negative impact of buying and selling counterfeit products, thereby combating counterfeiting. At the presentation ceremony on November 24, it was made clear that Ciudad Real is joining this initiative and is committed to carrying out a series of activities aimed at combating this scourge. On the one hand, a public awareness campaign will be launched on the value of industrial property, informing the public about the impact of counterfeit goods and services. On the other hand, local authorities will be trained in this area and educational workshops will be organized for the same purpose in schools, colleges, and universities. The SPTO will collaborate with the City Council of Ciudad Real in organizing and holding all these activities, providing the necessary material to ensure that the awareness campaign is successful. It will also grant the town the Autenticiudad project logo so that the City Council can use it in all the aforementioned activities. The SPTO also undertakes to train members of the Ciudad Real Local Police with a view to strengthening the police force's specialization and up-to-date knowledge of the problem of counterfeiting, from a practical perspective of knowledge of counterfeit products and the differences between them and authentic products, in order to make the fight against counterfeiting more effective. The “Autenticiudades” project brings together intellectual and industrial property offices, municipalities, and local organizations from across the European Union to help combat the problem of counterfeit products and piracy, raise awareness of IP rights among citizens and businesses, and create a European network of certified cities where best practices and ideas can be shared and joint activities can be launched.
