New feature on the EUIPO Observatory's IPEP portalThe European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) Observatory has launched a new section on its website's IPEP portal: the IP Enforcement Detentions Dashboard. This link provides access to the annual report on the results of detentions related to industrial property rights at EU borders and in the internal market in a more graphic and visual format. This report is produced annually using data entered into the IPEP by various European authorities and police forces. Its purpose is to provide reliable data for developing appropriate priorities and policies for the protection of industrial property and to monitor the effectiveness of those policies already in place. This new section can be accessed as indicated by the arrow in the image: The 2024 annual report on results at the EU border and in the internal market highlights the following: • The volume of seizures has increased significantly and the estimated value of the products has reached its highest level ever. 112 million counterfeit products with an estimated value of €3.8 trillion were seized. • The report analyzes cooperation between industrial property rights holders and customs, police, and market surveillance authorities. • The most seized products were: o Recorded CDs/DVDs o Toys o Clothing o Cigarettes, including electronic cigarettes o Perfumes • The main countries of origin of counterfeit goods are China, Turkey, and the UAE • The main means of transport used are sea, road, and air To combat the growing threat posed by the trade in counterfeit goods, cooperation and the exchange of information and intelligence between all parties involved, as well as the use of new technologies and tools, remain essential.
