A complete range of new electronic services

Since the decade of the 1980's, when the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (OEPM) acted as a pioneer in replacing paper document registration with that of electronic registration, the organization has been continuously committed to this format by means of several measures. It currently remains committed to these procedures in accordance with the Law 11/2007, which establishes the obligation of providing citizens with the means of communicating with the administration electronically, including services that enable handling all procedures the in same way.

Along these same lines, the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (OEPM) is preparing new services that will be available through the Internet in the upcoming months. These features include:

  • A new electronic brand application service that will substitute and improve the current one
  • Brand renewal on an individual basis as well as in batches
  • Application for distinctive trademarks will also by carried out in batches
  • Electronic application for industrial designs, including utility models
  • Introduction of the PCT National Phase for patents and utility models
  • New application for resources
  • Additionally, in the second quarter of the year, the Office will begin the daily publication of the BOPI - Official Bulletin of Industrial Property - (instead of its current bimonthly publication), resulting in a reduction of time required in processing industrial property titles.
