New Volume II Format for BOPI
The Official Bulletin of Industrial Property (BOPI) is the official publication of the SPTO and contains all data relating to Patents, Utility Models, Trademarks, Trade Names and Industrial Designs. It’s composed of:
Volume I: Trademarks and Other Distinctive Signs
Volume II: Patents and Utility Models
Volume III: Models, Drawings and Industrial Designs
Since 2009, BOPI has been published daily free of charge only in digital format at the SPTO Electronic Office, making consultation easier, quicker and flexible. It also involves shortening publication deadlines of various administrative proceedings, thereby expediting paperwork.
With the implementation of the new internal management system for processing applications for inventions, ALFA, Volume II of BOPI communicates through a new XML format, which replaces the one previously used on the SPTO website.
This change also affects users who were using the so-called "File BOPI" for automatic processing which will no longer be issued. In addition, it offers users a new BOPI application consultation, which can be used to retrieve annotations that meet the conditions provided in the form, both for the current day and for the period chosen.
Search method
The fields in which searches can be carried out include: Volume and date, category, application number, publication number, name and / or surname of applicant, name and / or the owner’s surname, name and / or surname of applicant, owner / petitioner / appellant in one single field, name and / or address of representative, IPC (International Patent Classification), and annotation type.
After the search, you can view what was chosen from the list of results, either in HTML or PDF pages from the volume of the day of its publication.
Another new feature includes pages that will contain their entire Electronic Authentication Code (CVE), which positively identifies and protects them from any attempt of forgery. The search interface includes a “Search by CVE” page which will retrieve an authentic copy signed by the SPTO by introducing the CVE. Likewise, previously published volumes can be accessed by date on another search screen, including that of the current day. The volume is available in XML, HTML and PDF (signed).
