The official announcement on the provision of grants for promoting Spanish patent applications and utility models in Spain and abroad for 2011 will soon be published in Official State Bulletin (BOE).

These are designed to:

  • Encourage the protection of inventions outside our country, through patents and utility models of Spanish origin. Grants for this type of assistance will cover up to 90% of the concepts for SMEs and individuals, and 80% for all other applicants.
  • Promote the protection of inventions in our country through patents and utility models. This type of assistance is aimed exclusively at SMEs and individuals, with subsidies of up to 90% of the concepts.

The aid will be granted for carrying out any of the following activities, compatible with each other:

  • The extension of a patent application or utility model requested of national offices and regional patent offices.
  • Activities performed within international procedures.
  • Spanish patent applications and utility models not claiming any unionist priority.

The formalization and presentation of applications shall be made by electronic means through the SPTO Electronic Office and the presentation deadline is one month from the publication date of the announcement.

All additional required documentation will be available on the SPTO website: a help manual and technical requirements for filling out an application for assistance, FAQs and additional forms.
