Agenda and international meetings

The Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (SPTO) is aware of the importance of international cooperation in the field of Industrial Property for promoting a national and global economy, so has held a number of meetings with National Industrial Property Offices.

On 28 March, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed with the Turkish Patents Institute in Munich (Germany) during the Board meeting of the European Patent Office.

This agreement will strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two institutions and will enable them to participate in activities to promote registration of the different types of Industrial Property by both Spanish and Turkish companies wishing to set up operations in the two countries.

Meetings with Morocco
The SPTO and the Moroccan Office for Industrial and Commercial Property (OMPIC) held a series of bilateral meetings in Casablanca (Morocco) in the framework of the Seventh OMPIC/SPTO Joint Commission, with a view to promoting the use of Industrial Property in general and of brands in particular as a strategic business tool, for both Moroccan companies in Spain and Spanish companies in Morocco. During the meetings, stress was placed on the activities carried out by the two countries to fight counterfeiting.

In addition, during the visit by the Spanish delegation, the OMPIC and the SPTO, represented by their respective directors, participated in the Seminar on ‘The role of brands in business development’ organised in conjunction with the Spanish Commercial Office in Casablanca. This amounted to an opportunity for the two offices to share opinions with the participants on the role of brands in the country’s economic development.
