Top applicants in 2014



Every year, the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (SPTO) publishes a list of the applicants that have filed most applications with the organisation, considering the first applicant that appears on the application.

Patents and Utility Models
The statistics on the main applicants for Patents in 2014 place the company BSH Electrodomésticos España and the Spanish Higher Council for Scientific Research (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas - CSIC) at the top of the list of businesses and public bodies, with 100 and 91 applications respectively, well above other applicants. Amongst the main applicants for national Patents are four universities, which may be a sign of the efforts being made in recent years in applied research and innovation.

Regarding Utility Models, the main applicants in 2014 were Technokontrol-Cat Global, S.L., with 17 applications, and the manufacturer of lighting appliances and accessories SIMON, SAU, with 10. For this type of Industrial Property, there are many individual applicants.

Industrial Designs
The list is headed by apparel and footwear companies. The most active applicants in 2014 were Creaciones Gavi with 15 applications, Esfera Verde SL and Mtng Europe Experience, S.L.U., with 14 each.

Trademarks
Finally, the main applicant for Trademarks, with 142 applications, was Magnificat Inversiones S.L. Other applicants followed at a distance: the gardening wholesaler Hemp Trading S.L.U. with 75 applications and then, with less than half the number of applications, the communication companies Corporación de Radio y Televisión Española, S.A. (67) and Mediaset España (58).
