Summer Course: Counterfeiting, crimes against Industrial Property

Since 2006, the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (SPTO) in collaboration with the Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo (UIMP) has been holding a Summer Course on the latest developments in Industrial Property and the challenges lying ahead. This year, the tenth edition of the course will focus on the problem of counterfeiting in Industrial Property covering, amongst other topics, the dangers inherent in buying counterfeit goods, attitudes towards counterfeiting and actions taken to counter counterfeit goods in Spain.

The debate will be sparked by speakers representing the various agents involved, those that are directly affected (business associations, such as ANDEMA, INTA, STANPA) those that are responsible for creating awareness on the negative effects (SPTO, OHIM, EPO, Spanish Chamber of Commerce) and those in charge of protecting IP rights (Spanish State security forces).

Registration now open
The course on ‘Counterfeiting: Crimes against Industrial Property’ will take place from 13 to 17 July at the Palacio de la Magdalena in Santander (Spain). Present on the opening day will be the Under-Secretary for Industry, Energy and Tourism (who is also President of the SPTO), the President of the European Patent Office (EPO) and the President of the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (OHIM).

Registration is now open, as is the period for applying for financial assistance. Applicants should apply to the UIMP directly.
