The madri+d Awards acknowledge the commitment to disseminate the results of their research

Recognition of the SPTO work

The prize-winning ceremony of the 10th edition of the madri+d Awards was held on 22 April. The Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (SPTO) received second prize in the Scientific Communication category for its article on ‘Patent quality’ on the SPTO’s blog on industrial property entitled ‘Patents and trademarks’. The Jury considered that the subject of patents and their quality, on which there are many differing opinions, was covered in an original way. The article’s clarity, with useful references and many examples, was much appreciated by readers in their comments.

These awards, created in 2003, acknowledge the efforts being made by research groups and technological entrepreneurs to ensure their results have a positive impact on the wellbeing and prosperity of citizens in the Region of Madrid. They also acknowledge the capacity of such groups to lead competitive projects within Europe and their commitment to disseminate the results of their research.

Recognition of achievements

On 29 April, the ‘ICT General State Administration 2015’ awards were presented. These were granted by the Sociedad de la InformaciĆ³n magazine and the Socinfo Foundation. The SPTO received one of the awards in recognition of its achievements in this field.

The aim of the Socinfo Foundation is to make known projects for developing Information and Communication Technologies within the General State Administration. As a journalistic entity, it set up these Awards to encourage different departments to share information about what they do, both their achievements and their mistakes, so that other public bodies and the general public can learn from them. And, in today’s difficult economic situation, another important objective is to encourage professionals by recognising their good work.
