DesignEuropa 2016 awards presented in Milan

On 30 November, the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) held the DesignEuropa Awards ceremony. These awards aim to give visibility and to celebrate excellence among designers who hold registered Community drawings and models as individuals, SMEs or large corporations.
At this first edition of the awards, given every other year (the next fair will be in 2018 in Poland), there were three categories:
- Emerging Small Enterprises: Caimi Brevetti for the Flap acoustic absorption panel designed by Alberto and Francesco Meda.
- Industry: Thule IP AB for a Thule design with the help of Veryday Design, for the Thule Urban Glide running stroller. A finalist in this category was the Spanish company RAVAL for its bike rack, with Escofet 1886 as holder of the design and Gerard Arqué and Martin Caneda as designers.
- Professional Career: This award went to Giorgetto Giugiaro, a well-known designer of over 200 models of vehicles for brands such as Audi, Volkswagen and Seat as well as for Korean, Japanese and Chinese companies. Amongst others, he designed such famous cars as the Maserati 3200 GT, the Volkswagen Golf and the Fiat Panda.
