International Cooperation Shapes the Future of the Industrial Property Ecosystem July has brought to Spain the stifling heat we’ve come to expect lately. We’ve managed to avoid it, at least for a few days, since we were in Geneva attending the 68th Assembly of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). Although the temperature in Switzerland is a bit more pleasant, we’ve still had to roll up our sleeves to get down to work and continue building the future of the industrial property ecosystem. Between July 7 and 15, the 194 member states made decisions to ensure economic, social, and cultural development worldwide through innovation. We discussed several of the most pressing challenges ahead of us, such as the Digital Transformation and the impact of Artificial Intelligence. Between sessions, we took the opportunity to hold bilateral meetings with numerous countries and regions from around the world, thereby promoting greater and better use of industrial property rights to offer more opportunities and open new markets for Spanish companies and SMEs. It is no secret that we have a special interest in further strengthening the ties that bind us to Latin America, and we are doing so through the Ibero-American Program for Industrial Property and Development Promotion (IBEPI), which is currently chaired by Spain. In short, these have been days of intense yet fruitful work that have served to reinforce our conviction that cooperation, multilateralism, and multilingualism are key elements for continuing to build, together, a solid industrial property ecosystem capable of effectively responding to the needs of users.
