The SPTO and the CDTI Join Forces to Make Spanish Industry More Innovative and Competitive We have great news for all Spanish companies and SMEs, especially technology-based ones that are committed to innovation as a way to grow and make a difference. And that news is none other than the agreement we have signed with the Center for Technological Development and Innovation (CDTI). This new agreement will allow us to train both CDTI professionals and the beneficiaries of its grant programs on the enormous advantages of making strategic use of industrial property (IP). Greater knowledge of IP rights and the management of intangible assets will give the CDTI and its entire network of affiliated companies and grant recipients a competitive advantage that will enable them to stand out and compete in global markets. This training is particularly relevant given the nature of the CDTI’s work, which is based on technological development and innovation—a highly dynamic sector that requires great operational agility. Another important benefit of this collaboration is the transfer of knowledge developed within the CDTI to society as a whole, thanks to tools such as patents, which ensure that this transfer can take place while providing appropriate compensation to their holders. The functioning of this ecosystem thus promotes humanity’s economic and social development by driving innovation and fostering technological progress. The agreement will take the form of various training programs and initiatives led by staff from the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (SPTO), aimed at increasing knowledge and promoting the proper use of all industrial property rights, as well as raising awareness of the various services offered by the Office. Among these, particular emphasis will be placed on programs focused on literature searches and patentability studies, such as Patent Technology Reports (ITP) and Technology Watch Reports. Additionally, a mechanism will be established to directly resolve inquiries and questions regarding IP, and a 30% discount will be applied to the price of the aforementioned reports requested by entities receiving grants from the CDTI. In short, the new agreement signed by both institutions will boost the competitiveness of Spanish industry and enable companies and SMEs in our country to innovate beyond our borders with full assurance.
