Industrial Property and Technology Transfer: Experiences in Spain and Colombia

On 10 October 2013, the first meeting on Industrial Property and Technology Transfer was held in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia. It focused on the experiences of Spain and Colombia, the aim being to use joint formulas to help achieve technological development and enrich business fabric.

Organised by the Colombian Department for Industry and Trade (SIC) and the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (SPTO), the meeting allowed those present to learn about experiences in the two countries in universities, within the Technology Transfer network and in the world of Industrial Property.

As a result of the meeting, two needs were stressed:

  • Thorough Technology Transfer Planning needs to be established in order to gain full advantage of the results of innovative projects.
  • State support should help promote solutions leading to the transfer of knowledge to the production fabric.

Technology Information Services
During the meeting, the Technology Information Services that the two National Industrial Property Offices offer their citizens were presented. Their aim is to make strategic use of technological information and to establish appropriate technology surveillance as well as strategies for promotion and support programmes for Technology Transfer.
