Patricia García-Escudero, Director General of the SPTO, and François-Régis Hannart,Director for Cooperation of the EPO.
On 16 March, the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (SPTO) and the European Patent Office (EPO) signed a new roadmap covering joint cooperation activities with Latin America for 2016-2017.
The main aims are:
- To develop Latin American Patent systems in order to build up innovation-based economies.
- To improve the quality and efficiency of Patent searches and examinations in Latin America.
- To facilitate access to the information included in Patent documents in this region.
In order to achieve these aims, several activities are to be set up: seminars for judges and prosecutors, training courses for Patent examiners, seminars providing information for Offices and for Industrial Property experts in the region, and continued support from both institutions for existing projects in the field of Industrial Property in the region, such as the Central American Patent Manual, the Latin American Patent data base LATIPAT and the Latin American Programme for Industrial Property and Promotion of Development (IBEPI).
The signature of this new road map is yet another example of the excellent relations and close collaboration between the SPTO and the EPO.
